Top Secret Extra Credit Opportunity!

By Sunday 3/13/11 at 11:59pm comment to the following post (first name, last initial, class period) . . . share this 2 point extra credit opportunity ONLY WITH THE COOL KIDS!

Background:
During World War II (and World War I), citizens and businesses were asked to sacrifice for the war effort . . . .
For example, Lucky Strike cigarettes gave up using green dye in their packaging so that the military could use the color . . . .

Other propaganda encouraged people to plant Victory Gardens . . .

Or encouraged people to buy War Bonds . . . .
Rationing was also a major part of people's lives . . . .
And now for your questions . . .

Since we are currently involved in two "wars" (Iraq and Afghanistan):
  1. What one thing would you be willing to give up/sacrifice in order to help support these "wars?"
  2. How would giving that thing up help the war effort?
Your life is unique, so your answer should be unique, as well!

Good Luck!

1. I would give up any and everything I have for my country. America is the greatest place on Earth. I already live in the Grove, so I don't have that much to begin with...
2. how would giving everything I have up help the war effort? well they would have a sick pair of Kobe's. And a bunch of t-shirts. the kobe's make them faster, so they could flee from danger. The t-shirts could keep them cool in the hot sun.

1. I would give up driving my car to and from school everyday. It takes up a large amount of gas that could be used for other things. Instead I would ride my bike or walk daily.
2. It would help the war effort becasuse that gasoline could be used for the war effort. The U.S. army could use all the gasoline they could get and me not driving my car would give them more available gas.

I would give up new things. Clothing , furniture, treats, electronics, etc. And food would be rationed. This would help the war effort because the companies that used to manufacture nonessential items could now produce more of the necessary items for the troops overseas.

I would be willing to give up the variety and quantity of foodstuffs available. America overeats as is; I don't think we need a war as an excuse to cut back. This would be helping the war effort by providing more food to people sacrificing their lives for our country. People sitting at desks all day don't need nearly the protein and carbs active soldiers do. Besides, soldiers give up so many luxuries that they deserve to get as much food as they want and the highest quality possible.

I would be willing to give up my education and instead go work overseas, nursing the wounded and sick. Not only would I be increasing my knowledge through first hand experience (not in a classroom) but i would also be helping out all the soldiers to get better and go fight some more battles. The more soldiers that get better, the more soldiers there are to fight, and thus the better chance we have of ending war faster.

1. In order to support these "wars" we are in I would be willing to give up my time. whether it would be to fight in the war or to give up the time to make parts to a tank in a factory.

2. This would help the "war" effort by allowing to be an extra body in the war effort or to be making a new tank that could be an important part in making the war successful

To help support the wars I would be willing to sacrifice going on vacations, and doing things for solely recreational purposes. It would help the war effort because the gas used to fly the planes could be used elsewhere. Also instead of me having fun I could dedicate my time to making things for the troops, or supporting them

I would give up winter. We all hate it anyways. This would benefit the troops because then they wouldnt be cold. It already isnt fun to have to fight a war, and it really sucks if you are cold. So if we just didnt have winter everyone would be happier.

1. I would give up AP Physics
2. This way I could devote my time to helping assist the "war" effort, instead of trying to figure out the next problem set. I would keep APUSH though, parce que l'hisoire est tres importante.

I would be willing to give up my boat to help support the war effort. This would help the war effort because I would no longer be using gas for my boat, which would mean that more gas would be available to help win the war. Also, because I would be spending less time on my boat in the summer, I would have more time to volunteer and help out with the war effort.

I would be willing to give up my skepticism about America's purpose with the "war" on terror. This would help the war effort because I'd be more likely to obey government mandates. If the government considers the situation abroad serious enough to ask something from its people, then I need to take it seriously as well.

I'd be willing to give up all of my stuffed animals to help out with the war. This would help because the soldiers could give stuffed animals to the locals to make them feel better and not consider us intruders. Also these people may be more likely to help us out as a result (ie telling us where hidden bombs are). Stuffed animals make everyone feel better about themselves...its just a fact of life.

1. I would be willing to give up my hobby of playing soccer.
2. Giving this up would help the war effort because I would be willing to go overseas and help the wounded instead of spending time playing soccer. Not only would I be an extra person helping the soldiers, but I would enjoy doing it because I have the interest in medicine to not get bored day after day.

In order to help out with these wars I would be willing to give up all my socks. I could wear sandals everywhere, and go bare foot when I workout. Giving up socks would save water from not washing them and keep the feet of the soldiers warm at night (in a desert lol). I believe just by giving up socks I would help out the war effort greatly
